The DEC Hall of Justice has ample, free parking in the lot next to the courthouse, including nearly 800 public parking places. However, it is a busy court, so parking can still feel like a premium on a busy day. The court is also accessible via BART and direct bus service between the Dublin/Pleasanton BART station and the courthouse.

The DEC Hall of Justice Boasts Modern LEED-Certified Architecture

This particular building was two decades in the making. It was a joint effort between Oakland County and Fentress Architects. The county knew the rapidly expanding east bay needed a courthouse that could meet and stay ahead of its community’s legal needs while desiring to respect the surrounding environment. They hired Fentress Architects, and the result is a 20+ acre, landscaped site with two buildings that comprise 209,432-square-feet.

In addition to an attractive and energy-efficient design, the justice center’s design provides an efficient experience for visitors accessing one of the court’s multiple divisions, including:

  • Public Defender
  • District Attorney
  • Probation Department
  • Criminal, civil, traffic, and family proceedings
  • Jury assembly

High-traffic areas of the court are all located on the main floor to minimize the public’s need to access the upper-four floors of the five-story building, which reduces demand for stairs and elevators.

Perhaps most notable about this impressive hall of justice is its Silver LEED certification, indicating it exceeds current energy efficiency and building sustainability guidelines.

Some of its eco-friendly features include:

  • Large interior light well that serves as a solar tube, using natural light to provide the majority of the open interior’s daylighting
  • High-performance glass comprises the building’s dramatic glass curtainwall façade and windows
  • Exterior sunshades that, combined with the high-performance glass, minimize solar heat gain and reduces energy consumption and utility spending

Those who utilize the court regularly, including lawyers and jury members, appreciate the lobby’s generous hallways and waiting areas. These are all equipped with seating nooks that provide semi-confidential spaces for conversations.

The state-of-the-art facility incorporates the latest in technology and sustainability, and new security will ensure a safe environment for all users.

The court’s open and spacious design, combined with the ample windows and glass, makes it an aesthetically pleasing space. If you find yourself doing business there, we recommend allowing sufficient time to take deep breaths and take advantage of the spacious landscape to find calm in what can be an otherwise stressful experience.

As we are a business and employment law firm, we don't often visit this courthouse, but it is one of the nicer and more modern courts in Alameda County.
